Someone told me recently that the very early MDs were 6 volts and had two 6 volt batteries connected in parallel. Sounded strange to me. I don't know if he had is facts straight or not. All I have seen are 12 volts. The one I drove a s youth (I think it was a 1950) had two 6 volt batteries connected in series, making it a 12 volt system. With modern 12 volt batteries, all you need is one good heavy duty battery. I first had my MD fixed up as original with two 6 volt batteries, but the large 6 volt batteries these days aren't so good and are not easy to find. So I gave that up and went to one 12 volt.
