1)the new seals are not a thick as the old seals? Correct if the current seals are the original. It will be one double seal per side. If two seals come out per side, then they have been replaced somewhere along the line. Yep the two new seals will not be as thick as the current double seal. 2) I should not "bottom" the first seal all the way inside the bull cage? ((I'm assuming that there is a flange on the bull cage that the first seal bottoms out against, and then you bottom out the second seal against the first) As technique I don't set the first seal all the way back. I leave enough room so the second seal is flush with the casting or slightly tucked in. Yes there is a flange. You will see it when you get the old seals out. Eyeball the ball bearing assembly and check it's condition.
