A Journals and Oil Pressure

I have a 41 A with really low (15 psi) oil pressure when hot (30 cold). Runs fine otherwise. I read all the posts in the archives, and am going to check the crank and rod bearings and oil pump end play with plastigage. When I do check the main journals, I'd like to mike the shaft at the same time. How do I do this with the crank in place since I was shown to "drag" the mike over the bearing surface to get a good measurement. Seems like even if I slip the upper shell out, I still won't be able to measure the thickest part of the crankshaft (Or can I?). Thanks in advance.
