That type hood was used (A and B) through serial 40192, about the end of 1940. I never checked the length to see if the later ones are the same. Maybe you could grind off the brackets for the hook type retainers and drill it for the early style.
The lubrication of the transmission changed at serial 39022. The case changed, the slinger gear was added etc. A lot of the internal parts remained the same.
