I have a friend with a 1927 McCormick-Deering 10-20 for whom I am posting this. His 10-20 is a 1927 with an Ensign carb. He has had a man working on it for a long time...mostly procrastinating. My friend tells me that his man has finished rebuilding it, BUT... the man claims that he will need a set of gaskets, where gaskets were not supposed to go...in other words, between where brass surfaces interface, where they never had gaskets. I don't know if he is right in this thinking. He's apparently afraid that it will leak if he doesn't use gaskets. As an alternative, he suggested that my friend maybe get a different carb. The man said he would not make the gaskets. Heck, I've made plenty for carbs and other things. Why not slightly oil or WD-40 the surface and then press it to the gasket material and thereby get a perfect outline? I've used that method with success. The man working on the carb says he found someone who would make the "seven" gaskets for 200 bucks...rediculous! What's going on here? Anyone knowledgeable about the 10-20 carb, please give me some advice. Thanks, Tom
