Mike...IF it still has the original generator (BIG if cuz so many people have cobbed these up over the years!) Then it SHOULD be a positive ground...doesn"t mean it won"t run the way it is...just not the proper way. You will have to polarize the gen and voltage regulator (just search it here...it"s done ny jumping accross two terminals and I cannot remember which ones at the moment) then hook it up properly with the pos side grounded and the heg to the battery. As far as the 8v battery...it will be OK in your system although unless someone has adjusted the regulator accordingly it will only be charging enough to essentially make the 8v battery into a 6v battery ( I have never adjusted a V R my self...the only time we ever run an 8v battery is on the Super Ms when they are freshly rebuilt as they are a lil tight and the compression is high.) If your electrical/ignition and fuel system are good and well tuned a 6v battery is PLENTY for a Super C...no reason to go to 8 or have an ugly old alternator hanging out the side cuz ya went 12v!
