If originality is important to you as it seems to be with other posters stick with what you have if not there are advantages to 12 volt altenator. Altenator is more depenable than generator/regulator. 12 volts is more forgiving will work when everything is not in perfect condition. Lights are brighter on 12 volts. Can use any battery charger, many newer chargers will not work on 6 volts. Safer to jump start from modern vehicle. Can use 12 volt electric pump for spraying. Other than mounting bracket about all you have to change is light bulbs, add resister to coil, if you have battery ignition and rearange wiring.
