39 A clutch rod?

Another silly question. We just finished replacing the cluth, pressure plate, throw-out bearing on my 39-A. We also had the fly-wheel turned down minutely. Upon restoring her, the clutch rod is at maximum adjustment with no threads left. Clutch works pretty well with about a 2-3 second "spin-down" before stopping. It's also a little noisy. My mechanic thinks that the clutch rod is a little too short because the fly wheel was turned down (he thinks it was turned down before in years past) His suggestion is to weld an extention onto the rod. I would have thought the rod would have had adequate adjustment for maintenance of this type. Any one have similar situation? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. - Lynn
