Engine Serial numbers - who do I use it to date engine?

I have a 1954 Farmall Super MD-TA. I believe it to be original based on casting numbers. The engine serial number is: D264 9562. I believe this means it has the 264 Diesel engine, but can find no info on the "9562" serial number, any help on finding out the engine manufacture date?
