I am very interested in all the comments you get from this question. I just completed a ring job, new valves, springs and carb rebuild on my 49 M. When I restarted the tractor for the first time, it also runs similiar to the one discribed, but it will ONLY run smooth with run smooth with the choke completely on. Without the choke on it sounds like it is starving for fuel. We also thought air leak at manifold mounting surface, installed new thicker gasket - no change. Finally after several hours of trial and error, I tried a carb. off my 400 and it runs beautifully. Full throttle range and pulls great, starts great. what other suggestions are out there?
