I would drain the system of the fuel/sugar mix and wash everything out good with water. Either replace the fuel bowl/filter or clean that up good as well.
If it had been run with sugar in the gas tank, I would clean the fuel lines and drain the carb as well, letting some new fuel fun thru the carb to wash out the bowl.
Hopefully that would do it - but dont forget to look for other monkey tricks - like switching plug wires.... after all if they put sugar in the tank....
