The hole in the bottom is a drain hole to let excess gas out when needed. It should have a felt in it to keep from drawing dirty air in but many of them are missing.
Try opening the main jet 1/4 or 1/2 turn at a time. It is adjustable to match the load you are on. With the engine loaded you should open the screw until you just see a little black smoke (very little) then close the screw half a turn. When you are done plowing or whatever turn the screw back in for the lighter load jobs.
