The big benefit of a TA is that it is clutchless.
When moving the lever, do it firmly and quickly. You can shift into low range while stopped and after you are underway, shift to high range. That saves some wear and tear on the engine clutch. TA's are mostly used for downshifting while underway when you need more power to get through a tough spot in the field or are transitioning to go up a hill.
