Setting a carb sorta becomes and art form .We all can give ya pointers on this but there are no set in stone rules as that is why they made the adjustment on them as each engine needs it's own fine tuning . There are three screws on that carb , one for the main fuel jet. one for the ideal mixture and one for the ideal speed . We all do this to our own way , but for me first i get the main set real close and that is i start with four turns off the main seatThen it is on to the ideal speed and start backing it off a little at a time while fine tuning the ideal mixture screw and here again i base set it a a turn and half off the seat. and keep playing with it till i get it to ideal as slow as i can and run smooth. Now here is some other food for thought here everythhing in the ing. system must be in good shpe also like the centrifugal advance and dist bushing so that you are not getting points bounce and the timing is holding steady . Next the gov. needs to be in good shape and that there is no play on the spring inside the gov. as when you push the throttel down to ideal that spring also holds back and if the holes in the two arms are missing there bushing and that spring is flopping around then getting the ideal set will be rough . When adjusting the screws on the cab ya turn then just a little at a time to see what it is doing and how the engine act to each change. Some of us can do this by ear and to get really fussy a tach will tell the story . You also have to keep in mind here that we are playing with tractors that could be or are coming up on the age that they should be on S/S and they are as cranky as the rest of us old goats. And we don't TUNE UP WELL either.
