If the serial number tag is still on your M, you can date it to the model year by the serial number. Large castings have casting codes cast into them, which can be used to give a rough idea of when your M was made. If you don't have it, Guy Fay's "International Harvester Tractor Data Book" is a must-buy. You can get it from Barnes and Noble(bn.com), Amazon.com, or any good bookstore. Stores like Quality Farm and Fleet carry it, too. Cover price is $10.95, and it is well worth it.
