It will fit and operate. The shifting lever that connects to the operating rod that you move to put the belt pulley in gear will be on the left side. I believe the M setup is on the right side.
The lever could be rewelded 180 degrees from its current position. Perhaps the changeover could be done from the inside by rotating the shifting fork. Dunno. I never have disassembled the BP shifter.
