First off , you can do all these repairs without taking the cab off even if you have to pull the range transmission cover. You have to start by getting some of the hoods off so you can trace down the shifting mechanism and follow it along all it's joints , connections etc. Depending on what kind of a cab, you might have to loosen it and raise front some for hoods but not likely. You must have tilt steering wheel to have loose steering wheel and that can all be taken care of from above. You might want to look at the CaseIH site and pull up the parts book as they are all free online and lay things out very well.
