first figure out if its a fuel problem or a spark problem. get a spray can of carburetor cleaner and remove the air intake hose off the carb. with carb cleaner handy, start the tractor, as soon as it starts to die, spray some carb cleaner in the carb and see if it stays running. if it does, there is a fuel system problem. if it doesnt help, start looking at the ignition.
