We have a M that does the same thing so we try not to put in 5th gear any more. Yes you will need to lift the top on the left side enough to get a large screw diver in to move the gears. I was thinking we were able to get it out. by taking the top off the belt pulley unit. but it has been years since we had to unstick ours.
