Whenever charging or for that matter jumping a battery from one vehicle to another,
ALWAYS CONNECT POSITIVE TO POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE TO NEGATIVE.
It does not matter which terminal is grounded.
Now, for your question.
As was posted it is normal for your tractor to be a positve ground system.
I would recommend you disconnect the battery from the system by disconnecting the positve ground wire and charge the battery overnight using an automatic charger.
Then make sure all connections are clean and secure and you should be good to go. (If all parts are operational)
