The lion's share of the sludge will be lying on the bottom of the pan. Drop the pan to clean it out. Also check and clean the oil pump pickup screen while the pan's off.
There will be a lesser amount of sludge under the valve cover and perhaps behind the tappet cover (magneto side of the block). You should remove both covers and clean out anything you find there too.
When you are finished give the head good final flush with clean solvent (kero, diesel, etc) then blow with compressed air to make sure all oil drain passages are clear.
Button the engine back up (use new gaskets!) and it should be good to go.
