just a thought but you can drill small hole (use a hand drill electricity and gas do not do well!)and empty and dry out your existing one (carb cleaner will evaporate rather quickly in the sun for a few hours) and then resolder your existing one. the way to test it for leaks is fairly simple just tie it to a wieght and then submerge. use something with a low specific gravity like soapy water. plain water has a high specific gravity and will not seep well into small openings like gas will. good luck and i have done this before when i was unable to get a float easily on a hunting truck (old jeep that is hours from the nearest parts store if they would even have one in stock)
