Right you needed the extra valve in the line for delayed lift. There's 2 different check valves in the unit that opens to release pressure. One for the front opening on left and the right opening. Other one releases pressure on the rear opening. If there working right pushing rod forward from hold opens check valve for LF and Rt opening. All the way forward releases rear opening or all openings.
