It will help, but I don't think I would dive into it unless you are replacing the bushings as well. Alot of play can be taken out by tightening the nut on the arm and adjusting the steering rods. I guess it all depends on how much play we are talking about on the wheel, 1/8 turn, 1/4 turn 1/2 turn? Where in the linkages the is the play? Does the arm move up and down while turning the wheel? Do the wheels wobble back and forth while moving? Any play in the linkages? Does the arm move in conjunction with the wheel, or is there hesitation?
