The studs are likely junk, that's why they'll only hold 80 lbs now. They hold clamping force by stretching the proper amount at the proper torque with the proper lube- if you go much past that torque, they'll permanently lose their strength, you can pull them right apart tring to get to the original "correct" torque. If they've been pulled to 170, they're likely paper weights
