When you get the pistons out you should push your new ring in the cylinder and measure the ring gap. The compression rings should be between .007-.017". The old one piece oil ring is .007-.015". They're probably now using the 3 piece set with 2 rails and an expander. You need to use a ridge reamer to remove the ridge at the top of the cylinder so you don't break a piston. I would use a glaze breaker on the cylider walls too. I would prime that oil system before you make a start to make sure you have oil pressure. If that block is sludged up I would pull the engine and take a look at that oil pump & have the block cleaned. You probably should have the crankshaft measured for wear. Hal
