When you tried to prime the pump, how much were you able to put in? The fluid needs to drain down into the supply line and it may take awhile for that to happen. Be patient and keep filling it until you are sure that it will not take any more. The pump will most likely only pull as much oil, as it has in the pump and that may not be enough to get the fluid to draw out of the reservoir.
There is a plug on the side of the safety/regulator valve that you may want to try and loosen to bleed air out of the system if you think the pump has fluid to it. Good Luck Steve
