Could you please explain what a "quack digger" is? I have been scratching my head trying to figure it out. A pic would even be better.
Back in the day we used either a twisted or straight clevis to pull moleboard plows with Ms & such depending upon the plow. A plow with trip bottoms had a loop on the hitch like you described & was attached to the tractor with a straight clevis. Plows that didn't have trip bottoms had a spring loaded hitch with a J hook that fit into a twisted clevis. When the plow hit an obstruction the hitch would spring back & the J hook would jump up out of the twisted clevis unhooking the plow from the tractor & preventing damage to the plow.
