Here are a couple photos from my teardown.
Couple of issues noted thus far:
#1 rod bearing spun
#3 cyl pushrod bent (not sure intake or exh, but the 6th one back from the front).
#3 cyl starting to rust...not sure if this is a headgasket issue or a water-in-the-exhaust problem.
I just removed the front cover today and noted considerable ferrous metal and the hyd pump drive gear laying off to the side. A nut was trying to machine its own access port out thru the front face of the cylinder block.
Apparently the helical gear on the hyd pump was either loose or the nut backed off or both eventually. The helical gear went out of mesh to the point that it was "nicking" the cam gear as it went by, thereby machining the teeth off 2/3 of the width of the cam drive gear.
The engine still has base time between crank and cam. Distributor gear and crank gear still look great.
I did not get to see the oil pan in original condition but suspect it got full of ferrous metal which contributed to the spun rod bearing.
