Basic trouble shooting situation to see where you have current flowing and where you do not. A 756 doesn't use a ballast resistor at the coil, the resistance is in the wiring harness between bypass terminal on starter solenoid and ign switch. From what you are saying about bypassing starter switch it sounds like you lost power to ign switch and need to check that out. Like one suggested, run wire directly from known current source to plus terminal on coil to see if it runs, but you will need a resistor in the circuit to use it this way for more than just a few minutes.
