Billy: I don't like the sound of that popping idea. I had a friend decide to wait until spring. The bearing broke up, jambed in such a way that it broke the final drive casting.
His was an axle bearing an it allowed the bull gear reduction to ride up on teeth of each other, breaking the casting.
You might try jacking each rear wheel, watch as jack takes the weight for movement of axle in relation the final drive housing. If it moves, I wouldn't wait too do repairs.
