Shouldn't need to polararize if you simply remove/reconnect wiring. However as John T suggests it only takes a moment to do and costs nothing.
Only time a generator MUST be polarized is after a generator has been rebuild or when a generator of unknown polarity is swapped into another engine. And I was involved in one odd instance where generator polarity was lost (along with a lot of the wiring and some paint...) due to a lightning strike.
