(It's still Haggis. I posted under Haggis a while back on another board and the cookie keeps defaulting -- all my tractor buddies are almost as confused as I am at this point!)
That last bit of information is important. It sounds like you might have after-market replacement rims, which will make a difference in the bolt length.
The original lugs on the rims were rectangular, riveted to the rim, and had a square recess in each side so that a square-head bolt dropped in just about flush from either side. That kept the head from turning.
The common replacement rims have a loop welded to the rim, just the right size to pass the 5/8" bolt through, but NO recess, so that the underside of the bolt head presses against the end of the lug, rahter than the center as the originals did. These are about 1-5/8" or 1-3/4" deep. Because they aren't recessed, you'll need longer bolts. 3-1/2" will work for the steel wheel and 4" on the cast. If that is the case, there's no advantage to square heads and you can use the easier to find hex heads. I don't know of any clips that fit on to hold them, just a wrench on each side.
