I'll weigh in too. Watched my dad bonk those hold down clips many a time. He was also not afraid to give the end of the guard a good whack UP it if was bent a little down.
Dont get the hold down clips bent too much. I have even seen my dad weld a fitted piece of flat iron to the bottom of a worn out hold down clip to get more use out of them.
