Looking at the parts diagram, it looks like the bottom shaft has to come out to the rear. First though, you will have to remove the drive coupling and woodruf key on the front end and then the bearing/seal retainer behind that. It sounds like it would be a good idea for you to order up a service manual. Someone needs to verify what I've said about removing the bottom shaft. I don't have a service manual for the H, only for the M and that manual is out in my shop, so I'll have to take a look and see what it says.
