Drive tires are generally mounted with the tread pointing upward when viewed from the rear, because they unload from center to outside of the tread in soft or sticky ground, as opposed to the dirt simply building up, and pushing toward the center. Driven tire such as combine 2WD rear tires act just the opposite so they are mounted with the tread pointing downward when viewed from the rear. However, Combines with 4WD will have the rear tires mounted the same as the fronts with treads facing in the same direction, all for the same reasons.
