The seller probably changed his email address in the recent past. Even though he probably went to both his eBay and PayPal accounts to change his address, both companies will still hang on to the old addresses. The account holder can't see them.
It has happened to me as a seller who has recently changed his email addy. I wasn't able to get the money. It's annoying. I fixed the problem by sending both companies an email explaining the problem. The missing money hit my PayPal account within a couple of hours.
