Before replacing it use a test light to see if there is power on both sides of the resistor. The tractor has probably been converted to 12v. which (if it has the original coil, or a 6v replacement, or a 12v coil that needs the resistor, it must be there. Almost any mid 60s chevy or chrysler ballast resistor will work. By passing the resistor for a minute will not hurt anything. Check the points and set them to .020" when they are open by the bump of the distributor cam. JimN
