Sometimes if you hold the shifter and ease the clutch out you can get it out of one of the gears. If you can't get that to work have somone rock it back and forth while you put pressure on the shifter, or have them gently tug on it with another tractor, until the shifter comes out. Then work the shifter through the gear pattern a couple times to get everything lined back up. Mine has done that several times and so far have not had to take the top off the trans to fix it.
