Hi Wayne, you are correct the brakes are fed by hydraulic oil from the oil cooler in front of the rad. You will have to bleed the brakes to remove the air bubbles. There is a bleeder screw over each rear axle, looks like a grease zerk. To add hydraulic oil, yes remove the plug on casting behind seat. It usually is a standard pipe plug but your 584 appears to be different. Some auto parts stores sell the set of hex sockets for brake calipers. Possibly one will be correct one. If you search the archives using my JimB2 you should find procedure to bleed the brakes. 454,484,495,574,584,595,674,684,685,695,784,884 all have same brakes.
