There is an option listed in my 1110 manual for two separate hydraulic cylinders to be used at the same time.
The extra cylinder will lift the inner shoe/slide to mow up on curbs, or to keep it from skidding through the gravel at the top of a road ditch.
My 1110 lifts the bar with a chain so a one-way or two-way cylinder can be used. Pretty much any mower with a chain (that can go slack) in the linkage can use a two-way cylinder, the loose chain provides the "float." Our 100 trailer mower is set up this way.
