One other thing to think about is the back to the starter. Did you use a 12V battery to jump it with? Because a 12V battery will spin a 6V starter pretty fast, even if it is weak. I've been down this road several times, sometimes some of the wire connections within the starter wear down making it drain an amazing amount of juice and act like you have a weak battery or poor connections.
