I posted here last week and got some info on a 454 IH a good friend of mine was looking at to buy. It had 4 speed with hi/lo, live PTO w/ 2 stage clutch, etc. Well..... Apparently he found another one for less money. This one is very different, however. It is a gas engine (4 cyl.) and has a transmission like I have never seen. On the left side of the seat are 2 levers. One is Hi/Lo/Forward/Rev. The other has 4 speeds in a sliding fashion. It also had what the owner called a transmission fluid filter under the left side. HUGE filter. The gas tank appeared to be behind the seat as well? If anyone can help, I have a couple of questions: 1. What kind of tranny is this, and are there any goods/bads about it. I know if it is anything like the Ford Select-O-Speed, I'm going to have him immediately abort this mission! 2. High range appears to be very high - In other words, this is the fastest tractor I have ever been on down the road. 3. The owner said the PTO was hydraulically operated? Independent of the clutch? What exactly does this mean? Can the PTO be stopped with the clutch? 2 stage clutch? 4. Where is the model/serial # located on this machine? The owner (not original) says it is a "seventy-something" model. 5. Any opinions about the $4200 price? Good or bad? It appears to be in decent shape. Cranks good, no smoke, hyd. seem to work good. etc. Thanks in advance for any help. Tommy D.

I have a picture blown up and framed in my "tractor room" of a Farmall M. It was my Grandpa's tractor, of which whom I never got to meet. He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction,
