As for the block if it is welded welding will distort it and then you will have to line bore . I think i know a little more on engine building then most . With getting on near fifty years of doing it. Find a nother block , check the cylinder bores for cracks and deck surfaces and you already know about the bottom . If ya can only find a block that is cracked down in the bore and the crack runs up and down don't panic they are the easy fixes . Ya just bore that hole out install a heavy wall repair sleeve and rebore the repair sleeve and put the sleeve in all fixed .
