My thoughts are with you! I am 45 and have had to suffer through losing two dogs: the Aussie my family got when I was 12 or 13 was lost to cancer at age 15 (she will always be the best!) and then 2 years ago March we lost my Sheppard Mix after 17 years to cancer also. I took it so hard both times that I thought I would never get another dog so I could avoid that feeling again. Well the feeling of not having that friend eventually won out and Wife and I adopted a 3 yr old yellow lab female in Sept. and we are so happy! Let your son know others have been through it, let him grieve for a while then get another dog!
