If it ended up darker than expected, it's probably because you didn't use enough paint. I like to begin painting at one of the rear axles, work my way all the way around the tractor and back to the original starting point, and then start all over again immediately. After completing the second coat, wait several hours, but do not allow the paint to fully cure before starting on the third coat. Cast iron will soak up a lot of paint and may require 4 to 5 coats or even more to produce that bright red finish.
