Sounds to me like the problem is fuel starvation. I would eliminate that possibility before going into ignition issues. Make sure that the screen in the sediment bowl is clean and you get a good flow out of the gas line after disconnecting it from the carburetor. There is a filter in the fitting where the fuel line attaches to the carburetor and that should be checked as well.
