Randy, I'm not a "master plowman", in fact I now only plow to fireguard fields for burning, but I was shown to run the tire in the furrow. Steering tire runs in the furrow, giving you old school "auto steer". Just as any other practise, others have their own method. Squishing one furrow with your tire is pretty irrelevant since you'll need to disc or cultivate at least a pass or two before you have any kind of seed bed.
