I have an 06 with 50,000 miles that has never given any problem or been back to the dealer. However, I put a water bypass filter on when it was new, I never let it idle, I change both fuel filters every 15,000 miles (as recommended), I clean the egr valve every 15,000 miles and there are no modifications of any kind. The 05 and newer were the best but lots of the older ones never gave any trouble either. Get an Oasis report and if it's had a troubled history walk away. If you plan to make lots of short trips, don't buy a diesel. In fact, don't buy a diesel unless you plan on lots of heavy pulling.
