Good Mornin Tom, If you have done another carb before it will be pretty easy for you. The zenith is a pretty easy carb to go through. The kit I got when i did mine on my Super A had good instructions and illustrations.
You are probablly right about the stuck float giving you a leaking problem, very possible ! Get the kit pull the carb apart, clean your parts well in carb cleaner. Make sure all your internal holes are cleaned well and blow out with compressed air.
Make sure you follow the directions on setting the height on the float and I think you will be fine !
